Could that be sunshine I spy over the horizon

Why yes it is!

Its summer time here in the UK….well almost….you see, I have been living in the UK now for 8 years, and I have come to the all too obvious conclusion that the sun and the UK had an affair ages ago ( long before any of you were born so don’t think about it), and can’t stand each other now. You know that state right? when you fell in love, and loved really hard, then woke up one day and asked yourself what you ever saw in that person? Yep! that is what the sun is thinking right now, hence why it can’t bear to be seen round these parts. It comes around sometimes, mind you, but just not always, not like its other loves, like San francisco ( Mela I’m still hating), my home country of Cameroon, and of course, Spain, with its beautiful islands, that act as refuge for fed up Brits who want abit of a tan in December.

So, I guess the long and short of it is, I made a dress……to prance about while the Sun was passing by, on its way to new loves. I used the mission maxi pattern. I have made this before, here and here, and I think this is the one I love most.

I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s going to rain maxi dresses this summer. I find them really easy to make, and comfortable to wear as well.

I used a knit fabric I bought at Walthamstow market. Even Junior Mr.Dibs loved it.  Now, Junior Mr.Dibs never takes an interest in my sewing but today he asked if I made the dress or bought it, and then went on to say, in his own words ” that is a great fabric Dibs. It is a great dress, it looks like something you would buy from a shop”. Coming from him, that is a MAJOR compliment. So peeps, the greatness of the mission maxi dress has been confirmed, go forth, I beg you, and purchase this pattern.

I was with Claire, and she was controlling my fabric shopping on that day. The sequence of events would normally go like this

Dibs sees fabric→Dibs gets mega excited→Dibs rushes to fabric bolt→Dibs turns to Claire, smiling→Claire frowns, and nods head→Dibs deflates and puts fabric bolt down→Dibs sees another fabric…….

On it went, until she sees something she things I might die if I don’t have. Thanks Claire.

Sorry about the bra peeping out. It is what it is. Mr. Dibs took the pictures, and spent some time actually trying to place the bra straps in such a way they don’t show, but like I said before, it is what it is. Even bra straps want to feel the sun. Capice?

I won’t talk much about this make, as it was pretty uneventful. I did not use my overlocker, preferring to use my normal sewing machine stretch stitch, just because I could not be asked to change the thread on my overlocker. Laziness Rules.

While Mr. Dibs took a break, Junior Mr.Dibs stepped in to continue with the picture taking. I have mentioned before that Mr. Dibs normally takes really bad pictures, just so I would stop asking him to take them, but since I have no one else most of the time, I have to go through many pictures (say 30), to get good ones (say 2). Anyway, as payment, Junior Mr. Dibs asked me to do special poses, of which this is the only one I could put on here, with a straight face.
